The Ultimate Non-Toy Gift Guide

If you’re like me, your house already feels overwhelmed by toys and the last thing you want to do during the holidays is to add to the clutter. Enter the “need” gift option! This is a great way to give your kiddos an awesome gift that you know they’ll use (because duh, they need it) without purchasing another fad toy. Most of these items can be shared between siblings too, so they’re great for a group gift!

I’ll be sharing some of my favorite items that we own and love from this guide on the Momma Society Instagram this week. As always, all Holiday content can be found under the Holiday category in the blog tab on the navigation bar!

Need more ideas? Shop my other gift guides to find the perfect item for everyone on your list:

One // Constellation Chart // These charts have become increasingly popular over the past few years and it’s easy to see why. I love the simple design that showcases how the stars aligned on the night of your most important life events. These would also make a great gift for grandparents or an anniversary!

Two // Wooden Bead Growth Chart // I love this unique revisioning of the traditional growth chart + it’s perfect for passing down between kiddos. You can leave it hanging on the wall, or easily roll it up for storage when you’re not using it. The beads are easy for small hands to hold onto and each chart comes with a card to keep track of growth.

Three // Hair Bow Subscription // Hair bows are my favorite accessories for little girls, but I hate going out to find them. So when I heard about this bow subscription from Little Poppy Co., I was so excited to test it out! For under $15, you receive 3 bows each month and you can choose between mini, original, or oversized bows. It’s the gift that will keep giving all year long!

Four // Activity Books // Stuck inside? Need something that isn’t TV? Activity book to the rescue! This is a great resource for kids to have on hand to guide them through hours of entertainment. Plus, it keeps them away from screens and encourages creative play. Win win!

Five // Cooking Club // This one is at the top of Chef Brody’s Christmas list and it might be the non-toy gift that I’m most excited about. You can choose between a one-time order, or a 3, 6, or 12 month option. Each box comes with a unique theme, a grocery list, and step-by-step instructions and activities that teach and engage your future chef in the entire preparation process. There’s also an add-on option so that siblings can join the fun.

Six // Sports Equipment // Athletics are great for kids, but they can also be a tad pricey. If you’ve been waiting to upgrade some gear or your little one is on the hunt for a new piece of equipment, the holidays are the perfect time to stock up. With all of the upcoming sales like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, you’re sure to snag a great deal too.

Seven // Dance Gear + Lessons // If you’ve been considering signing your kiddos up for dance class, the holidays might be the perfect time to take the plunge. You can snag my favorite tutus from Amazon if you’re looking for something to box up alongside the gift of classes. It makes one gift feel like two!

Eight // Subscription Boxes // I know I’ve already highlighted a couple of subscription boxes, but honestly they make them for every interest and hobby these days! Kiwi Crate was the most recommended brand by Momma Society moms and they look so cool. You can personalize the age group from 0 to 104 (not an exaggeration!) and give your kids something to build, tinker with, and create each month.

Nine // Art Supplies // Dot art markers are a great way to introduce paint to your blossoming artist without sacrificing your floors and their clothing. These markers can be used to draw or paint and they have a great metallic shimmer to them. I love that each marker is designed for kids’ hands which makes them easy to hold and create with.

Ten // Piggy Banks // How many of you have heard of the “Give, Save, Spend” money method with kids? I love the idea of teaching our kids about money early on and this is a great and easy way to talk about the differences between savings, donating, and spending.

Eleven // Luggage // Brody + Isla have spent a good portion of this year jet-setting so I wanted to make sure that they had the luggage to go with it. We already have + absolutely love this suitcase in yellow, but when I saw this gorgeous seafoam color, I had to add it to the list. The white detailing is so sweet and sophisticated, and the suitcase itself is small enough for little ones to manage it.

Twelve // Personalized Chair // I’m ready to snuggle up with a story just by looking at this chair! This personalized option from Pottery Barn is such a classic and comes in several color options. The shaggy fabric will make for the coziest of reading corners, especially in the cooler months.

Thirteen // Bedroom Furniture + Linens // We’re graduating Isla to a big girl room this year and even though I hate the thought of her growing so quick, I’m excited for her to enter this next phase. We’re surprising her with her own bed this year (or really, evicting her from the crib for Baby #3) and I am in love with the design of this one. Plus the color is totally gender neutral, so it would work well in any room.

Fourteen // Personalized Yard Signs // Time to retire the dorky “Slow, Kids at Play” signs and upgrade to one of these cool personalized ones! They’re roughly child sized and stand on their own, no installation required. You can choose from six sign options and each sign has wheels that make it easy to move.

Fifteen // Toddler Tower // Part ladder, part playhouse, part art studio, this toddler tower is the perfect gift for your little mover-and-shaker. It can be used to stand, sit, and can be folded into different positions.

Sixteen // Table + Chairs // Now that Brody has homework (time, please slow down!) I wanted to create an area for him that would serve as a homework station as well as his own personal activity space. This table is perfect for both and is sized for little bodies, so it’s even easy for Isla to use - when he lets her.

Seventeen // Hatch Light // We are 100% a Hatch household and it has done wonders for Brody and Isla’s sleeping schedules. Each Hatch has a variety of noise and light combinations that promote good sleep. You can program them for naps, bed time, rise time, and control everything from your phone! The latest model even allows you to use your phone as an intercom so you can communicate with ease.
