Our Christmas Ornament Tradition

We started the tradition of gifting our littles an ornament representative of something special that happened during the year every Christmas morning. I hang it on their stocking so that it is one of the very first things they see.

Along with the ornament, I write them a little note about the year and why I picked this ornament and stuff it in their stockings.

My hope is that by the time they are ready to move out of our home they will have a box of memories to bring with them and hang on their own tree with their own families one day.

We’ve been setting up little twinkling trees in their bedrooms for them put their ornaments on. They get to go to bed each night with their sentimental trees right in front of them.

How to Setup

To setup and store the annual ornaments, I found it easiest to prep ALL ahead of time—24 years!

+I bought each kiddo an ornament box and added their name to the side of it.

+Gathered 24 mini envelopes

+Pre-dated the envelopes with each year. I just printed the dates using a little handheld label printer and stuck them on the front of the velum envelopes.

+Section off the box (They come with cardboard pieces to do this).

+Have fun picking special ornaments each year! Sometimes I go with something representative of a milestone, sometimes it something that they’ve really be interested in this year, and sometimes it’s reflective of a place we have travelled to.

Here are the supplies I use:

Envelopes | Ornament Holders (if you’re buying more than 1 this is a better price here.| Krinkle Paper | Label Maker | Bedroom Trees

There’s no right or wrong way to do it! Do you have any holiday ornament traditions with your family?
