How to Host a Family Friendly New Year’s Eve Party

New Year's Eve is just around the corner and as much as I enjoyed hosting adult NYE soirees in my 20's with chic appetizers, themed desserts, and glittery décor, let's be honest-- my life revolves around my two little ones now and this New Year's Eve is going to be all about them. There definitely won't be any staying up til midnight for us but since we are on the west coast, we will try to make it to 9:00pm to watch the ball drop in Times Square. If you are hosting a family friendly New Year’s Eve party or are just looking to jazz up New Year’s Eve at home, I have some simple and festive ideas for you!

Tips for a Family Friendly New Year’s Eve Party///

One // Confetti // Package up individual cellophane bags with colorful confetti and hand them out to your guests (adults and children!) right before midnight (or 9pm if you’re planning on an early night). When the clock strikes midnight, pop the confetti for a fun new year!

Two // Photo Booth // Check your local party store, Target, or Amazon for some fun New Year’s Eve props. Set up a little “photo booth” area where guests can snap silly pictures throughout the night. Guests of all ages will love this simple touch.

Three // Fun Appetizers // Skip the fancy food and opt for something easier. Instead of having to make a full meal, go with an appetizers and desserts theme. There are tons of great pre-made appetizers that just need to be baked in the oven (hello Trader Joe’s mini caramelized onion and goat cheese tarts!) and leave trays of easy-to-assemble, no-cook bites around the house like veggies and dip, a “grazing board,” and a fruit platter.

Four // Bubbly Beverages // Serve champagne for the adults but provide non-alcoholic bubbly beverages for the children so that they’re included in the merriment. And instead of crystal and china, use recyclable stemware, flatware, and festive paper plates.

Making Memories on New Year’s Eve///

When hosting a family friendly New Year’s Eve party, keep in mind that it’s all about the memories. The décor doesn’t have to be perfect, the food doesn’t have to be complicated, and the heels can stay in the closet. What my son recounts the most about our New Year’s Eve party last year was how a blue lollipop turned his tongue blue and how he and I took silly pictures with our tongues sticking out. I can guarantee that what my daughter will love the most this year is playing with the themed props (Mardi Gras beads in black, silver, and gold are going to be a hit,) and throwing confetti. The confetti will probably give her hours of entertainment and even though I’ll have a hard time with the mess, I’m going to remind myself that it’s worth it. Make memories that your children will cherish for years to come. Welcome friends or family into your home with a casual, cozy vibe and ring in the New Year with those you love. There really is nothing better than feeling at home.
