The Momma Society Community Instagram Sale - How To Sell Your Clothes on Instagram

Fall has arrived and clearing the clutter is heavy on my mind. Next week is all about clearing out all of those baby clothes that Brody is outgrowing way too quickly..

To help with the closet clutter, I hope you will join in on the 2nd annual Momma Society Community Instagram Sale. Think consignment sale shopping without leaving your home.

The Basics

  • When: Wednesday, September 28th through Sunday, October 2nd
  • Where: Instagram
  • What: Post your little one's old clothes on Instagram using #MommaSocietySale and shop other little one's closets by searching the hashtag.
  • How: Follow the steps below.

7 Easy Steps to Selling Your Clothes on Instagram

1) Create A Separate Account

To avoid inundating your followers with posts during the Momma Society Community Instagram Sale, consider creating a separate Instagram account just for selling. I created @ShopMommaSociety to use.

2) Let your Followers Know

Once you have created a separate account, post a screenshot of the new account on your personal Instagram account encouraging your followers to follow along and letting them know when and what you will be posting.

3) Decide on Your Terms

Will shipping be included in the price? Will you ship internationally? How long does a buyer have to pay? Try placing these details in the bio section of your profile so they are easy to find. Here are the terms I have in my shop bio. Feel free to copy and paste them into yours as you see fit.

4) Take Your Pictures

Your item will sell based on one picture, so make it a good one. Take the shot in natural light so the colors come out true. Make sure they are on an uncluttered background. Try laying the item flat on your bed or hanging it from a hook on the wall. One of my favorite Instagram resale shops, @shoplittlerose,  does a great job with her photos. They are simple and clear.

5) Post Your Products

You are the shop curator. Those old ratty pjs? Go ahead and donate them. Pick clothes from your little one's closet that are new or very gently used to ensure a happy buyer. Mention even the smallest of flaws in your description. Price the items similarly to the prices you would find at a consignment store (20%-50% of the retail price). Use relevant hashtags including the brand, type of item, and some of the suggestions below:

6) Send your Invoices Through Paypal

Create a Paypal account and using the email address of the buyer, send out your invoices. The quicker, the better.

7) Ship!

Pack up your item and ship it to the new buyer. Be sure to send them a tracking number.

Who will be joining in? Leave your instagram shop name in the comments!
