My Secret for Keeping Our Home Fresh

This post was done in collaboration with iHerb. Thank you for supporting the brands that keep Momma Society going!

Motherhood changes everything, including the smells in your house. Tiny feet and little faces are undeniably precious but they can also be a little stinky + sticky. Like most of you, I’ve become really particular about the products I bring into our house. I love a good smelling room as much as the next momma, but I’m wary of fragrances made up of ingredients I can’t pronounce.

After some crazy anxiety and stress over the past few months, my brother gifted me a diffuser and some essential oils for Christmas. I was not sure how I would like them, but much to my surprise they have been awesome.

Why I Love Essential Oils

I’ve been using an essential oils diffuser in our living room and I love how great it makes every room in the house smell. I recently added one to our bedroom and the car too. Go big or go home, right?! The scent lasts longer than an aerosol spray (which give me headaches) and works quicker than a candle which is exactly what I need after a diaper disaster. There’s something about the way the diffuser works that also brings a sense of calm to the entire house. As soon as I turn our diffuser on, I can feel the kids + myself instantly start to chill.

How I Use Essential Oils

It’s no secret that I have anxiety (thank you all for the support you’ve given me this year!) and I love using essential oils to help relieve some of my stress. My go-to iHerb product for this is their Stress Relief Blend. It comes in three scents but my favorite is the lavender. It’s so soothing and helps me to immediately clear my head and help me calm down.

Another family favorite is the Immune Boom to help with preschool germs and Peaceful Sleep blend! I love that this sleep blend is a floral, citrus scent because it makes me feel like I’m breathing in crisp, fresh air. Plus, since the diffuser only uses these natural oils + water, I feel safe incorporating the oils into our home for Brody and Isla when they need a little extra help getting to bed or going down for a nap.

While browsing iHerb’s site the other day, I found a diffuser made for your car and I was so excited to try it out! All you need to do is pour a few drops of your favorite scent on a diffuser pad and plug it in to turn your preschool pick-up time into a mini trip to the spa.

Using Essential Oils with My Kids | Momma Society

It’s no secret that I love the candles from Anthropologie but at $28 each, it’s hard to stock up on more than one at a time. Since it is my favorite scent, I’ve been trying to find a way to recreate a healthier, cleaner version of it. The floral, citrusy with a bit of woodsy smell—it’s hard to explain, but it smells like heaven. I was able to create a really similar scent using only four oils from iHerb and I’m so excited to share the recipe with you!

Supplies Needed

Side note – the geranium oil has a pretty strong and somewhat strange scent on its own, but I promise it will blend perfectly with the other oils once you have everything in the diffuser!

Directions

  • Add about a cup of water to your essential oils diffuser. Room temperature or lukewarm works best!

  • Add 4 drops of Tangerine Essential Oi

  • Add 4 drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil

  • Add 1 drop of the Geranium Essential Oil

  • Add 2 drops of the Cypress Essential Oil

  • Turn your diffuser on and enjoy the scent!
