Making Messes + Memories with ALL

We’re making the most of these summer days all together so I’m constantly trying to find new activities that the kiddos will love. Typically, I opt for fuss-free crafts with scissors, sorting, or coloring. However, those only hold the kids’ attention for so long before they’re ready to move on to the next thing and my big craft day has turned into a 15-minute distraction. Big mom fail, right?
I tried to avoid messy activities for the longest time because I thought there would be a ton of cleanup involved, but it turns out that the messier the activity, the more my kids love it. Seriously, if there’s something sticky involved or it requires them to dip their hands in, they’ll easily spend an hour or more playing which is no easy task with two young kids! Their imagination flourishes with messy play and I love watching the silly situations they get themselves into when making messy memories together.
Our newest family favorite is an easy-to-make craft called Oobleck -- even JD and I enjoy getting in on the mess. Oobleck is extra colorful and messy which would have scared me away in the past, but luckily, I’ve found that a little all® stainlifter® OXI mighty pacs and a post-play bath are a cure-all for our mess masterpieces.
One thing I really love about Oobleck is that it’s so easy to make and easy to customize for the look that you want:
Step One // Add 1/2 cup of water to a bowl
Step Two // Add 4-5 drops of food coloring
Step Three // Pour 1 cup of cornstarch into a bowl and stir
I love that all® stainlifter® OXI mighty pacs whitens + brightens our clothes and leaves such a fresh scent on the fabric. Their formula contains no phosphates and works great even in cold water (no shrinkage here!). I know I can wash the kids’ clothes over and over again without damaging the fabrics and that they’ll come out of the wash looking as good as new, even after our mess makers leave their mark.
