Isla’s Custom Closet Makeover

It should come as no surprise that I have a love for kid's closets. From Isla's glam nursery closet in our home in Arizona, to Luca's whimsical wallpapered closet -- there is just something special about creating a magical nook to showcase miniature clothes and memories.

When More Space Place Greenville reached out about collaborating on a closet in our home, I knew Isla's closet would be the perfect spot. Her closet was the standard builders closet with one rod for clothes and a whole lot of wasted space. It was in need of some serious love.

I thoroughly enjoy curating little wardrobes for my kiddos. With a custom closet, I wanted it to showcase her sweet little outfits, shoes and accessories. I also wanted shelving and a design that would grow with her.

More Space Place -- who specializes in custom closets, cabinetry and Murphy beds in Greenville and Asheville--nailed it with Isla's closet design. Here's a look at how it all came together.

The Custom Closet Process:

Katie from More Space Place came to our home for a consultation. She measured Isla's closet and asked about things we wanted to incorporate. Storage for Isla's Hunter Boot collection and spaces to hold her tasseled storage bins were high on my list.

While Katie drew up a design plan for the closet, JD and I took down the current closet system and patched up the walls. We decided to paint the closet a very subtle pink to add a pop of color to her mostly neutral room.

We debated about wallpapering the closet, but since we plan to be in our home for quite a while, we wanted something that would grow with her. We decided to paint and add fun decals for the perfect whimsical touch.  We ordered a sheet of these decals.

A few weeks later, an installer from More Space Place came over. In less than 2 hours he had the entire custom closet system fitted and installed to perfection. The kids and I had fun adding the star decals to the walls soon after.

Then came the best part! Loading up her closet and styling it. The gold rods and pullout baskets added such a fun glam touch. We filled the drawers with pajamas and swimsuits, grouped her outfits by color and lined up her shoes. Everything she uses on a regular basis is within arms reach for her and easy to see. A total win in the mornings when she can find her own gear for the day.

The custom closet came out even better than I had imagined. I love that the shelves and rods can all be adjusted as her little bitty outfits get bigger and bigger. Isla insists on showing all of our visitors her "new closet". She loves organization as much as her momma :)

If you're in the Greenville, SC or the Asheville, NC area--I can't recommend the family-run More Space Place enough!
