A Summer Capsule Wardrobe for Mom

While I don’t currently follow a strict capsule wardrobe, I often find myself falling into one by virtue of reaching for the same pieces over and over. After seeing Brody’s capsule wardrobe, I thought it would be fun to share my ideal summer wardrobe too!

Although this summer capsule wardrobe is geared towards my life as a stay at home mom, with a few small changes it can work for your current lifestyle no matter what it is. Can’t wear jeans to work? Swap them out for a pair of white pants! Prefer closed toe sandals? Wear a pair of espadrilles instead!

I typically gravitate towards a neutral color scheme. White, varying shades of blue, and grey with a pop of bright pink make up my wardrobe. If you more color in your life, pick 3-4 colors that work for you!

TOPS

J. Crew Chambray Shirt // I have a similar style chambray shirt from last year that I found myself reaching for every week. It is such a crisp look when paired with white jeans.

J. Crew Eyelet Top // I bought this eyelet shirt in black during a recent sale and can’t stop wearing it. I love it so much I want it in white too.

Everlane Sweater // A lightweight linen sweater is perfect for cool nights or cloudy beach days. Everlane is a sustainable brand. Gotta love a company doing good!

J. Crew Graphic Tee // When I want to switch it up, a graphic tee with a fun phrase is my go to. Old Navy and J. Crew have the best options.

Target Neutral Tees // I always have a trio of neutral tee shirts on hand. White, grey and black with an occasional navy. Great for layering or wearing on their own.

J. Crew Long Striped Shirt // One of my favorite outfits is a long sleeved striped Breton tee, denim shorts, Birkenstock sandals and a fedora. It is easy and makes me feel put together every single time.

Old Navy Striped Shirt // I firmly believe you can never have too many striped shirts. A dressier version with vertical stripes mixes it up a bit.

Old Navy Floral Top // While I normally stick to neutrals, I discovered I really love a floral top.

BOTTOMS/DRESSES

Madwell Denim Jeans // Some people prefer leggings or dresses over jeans, but I’m a denim wearer through and through. Madewell makes some of the best for slimming the parts that need it with their “Magic Pockets.”

Old Navy White Jeans // White jeans are such a staple of summer. These get great reviews and at this price point I wouldn’t be too anxious about the kids getting them dirty.

J. Crew Shirtdress // I used to wear dresses a lot during the warmer months. They are perfect for the office! My favorite style is a classic shirtdress. Wear it with wedge sandals to dress it up or keep it casual in flat sandals or flip flops.

H&M Floral Skirt // A slighter longer skirt is my go to with kids. This light green floral option would be cute with a white tee and neutral sandals. Grab the jute beach bag and you’ve got an outfit!

Nordstrom Shorts // When it’s too hot for jeans, you’ll find me in denim shorts. I’m a fan of finding a pair you love and wearing them until they fall apart. I wore my last pair for almost 10 years!

SHOES

Birkenstock Sandals // I received a pair of Birkenstock’s as a Mother’s Day gift when I was pregnant with my daughter. That was 3 years ago and I haven’t stopped wearing them since. They are more supportive than other sandals and still look chic. You’ll find me in these 90% of the time.

Old Navy Flat Sandals // These sandals come in 6 different colors and are less than $20 making them a no brainer.

Target Wedge Sandals // Wedge sandals are a must in my summer wardrobe for those days or nights I want to dress up more.

Adidas Sneakers // On the rare occasions I don’t reach for sandals in summer, I throw on a pair of sneakers. I usually go without socks or wear a no show pair, although I have yet to find no show socks that don’t slip off my heel.

Havianas Flip Flops // I’m on my 4th pair of Havianas flip flops in the past 10 years. They’re a great, basic flip flop perfect for those walks to and from the beach.

ACCESSORIES

Nordstrom Hat // A fedora, straw or baseball hat is essential for protecting your face from the sun and hiding a bad hair day.

J. Crew Denim Jacket // Denim jackets are the perfect layering piece. It looks equally as great with a dresses as it does with jeans or shorts.

Target Swimsuit // Post babies I haven’t felt comfortable rocking a bikini yet. Luckily, a black one-piece swimsuit is always a classic. This version has detachable straps for those beach days chasing after little ones. (Side note: will I ever read a book on the beach again?!)

H&M Jute Beach Bag // This bag would be so cute with a navy shirtdress or white tee and jeans.
