The 2/2/2 date your spouse plan 8 month update. ▫️Highly highly recommend giving it a go. ▫️Overall, we’ve done a really good job sticking to twice a month dates. Finding a babysitter we really like (and our kiddos really like) has made this much easier. I am terrible at asking other people to watch them. It’s much easier for me to text the babysitter than ask family or friends. On the flip side, when we are lucky enough to have family watch them it’s awesome because babysitters are $$$. ▫️Fav dates so far have been @greenvilledrive baseball game, roller skating, and some fun nights ubbering downtown and restaurant hopping for different courses with neighbors. ▫️The overnight dates have been much tougher to organize/prioritize. They’ve also been the most refreshing where we come back feeling like we really had a break. I think we’ve only done 2 this year. See above about being awful at asking people to watch ours kids. We have one more planned for this weekend when we are visiting family in AZ. Hoping to squeeze in a couple more before baby time since that will throw a monkey wrench in the overnight dates for a little while. ▫️The every 2 year week long trip sans kids—-We’re scheming how we can fit in a week long without kids in the next year or two. Having the baby will make it tricky for quite sometime and I’m sure finding help with THREE kiddos for an extended amount of time will be very tough. But where there’s a will, there’s a way! ▫️Have you guys been trying this plan? What are your tips for dating your spouse during postpartum? In the past, it’s fallen to the bottom of our list of priorities. Hoping to change that this time around!

We went on a little back to school shopping trip to @haywoodmall last weekend and it was so much fun. #brand_partner

I know shopping with toddlers can be a bit crazy, but here are a few hacks to make it fun: ▫️Give your toddler a physical shopping list (Brody was on the hunt for school shoes, underwear, socks and a meet-the-teacher outfit). ▫️Break it up with playtime. The mall play area, the little rides that you put quarters in, or the @lego store all make great stops. ▫️Give their legs a break. We always bring the stroller with the sibling board when we're shopping to eliminate the whining that comes with tired toddler legs. ▫️Pack some lollipops. These are my go-to bribe. They last quite awhile and help us make it to the last few stores when everyone starts to get tired.

It was a successful trip! Here's our weekend haul: ♥️Lunchbox for Isla from @childrensplace ♥️Brody's shirt from @belk ♥️Islas jumper from @jcpenney (it was a steal! $8!) ♥️Brody's shoes from @myrackroomshoes ♥️Days of the week undies from @gapkids ♥️And hand sanitizer from @bathandbodyworks (Brody told me picking out his scent was his favorite part of going to the mall LOL)

When do your kiddos start school? Brody starts on the 19th and Isla starts the first week of September!

ARE WE FINDING OUT THIS BABY’S SEX? We’ve been contemplating this since the day we found out we were expecting.

With Brody, we waited until his birth to find out. It didn’t bother me during the pregnancy to not know. It was a great way to stick to very gender neutral baby gear since we knew we hoped to have more kids in the future. We were gifted so many practical things vs “cutesy” things. It was cool having a little surprise baby inside.

The moment he was born and placed on my chest, we forgot to even check to see if it was a boy or girl. And when we did, of course excitement filled us!

That being said, I’d be lying if I said bonding with him was immediate. He was Baby R in my belly for 42 weeks. I wasn’t calling him a name during that time. I wasn’t picturing Baby R kicking soccer balls or going on a girl’s day to get a pedicure. That early bonding didn’t start until he was born.

With Isla, from the beginning we agreed we would go the whole finding-out-at-20-weeks route. JD and I sat in the ultrasound room—-giggling at Brody getting stuck in the basket of the stroller mid appointment—as the ultrasound tech told us it was a girl.

Always the double checker that I am, I left the appointment wondering if it really was a girl? What if she was wrong? That lingered in the back of my head the rest of my pregnancy.

But it was a girl! And it was so nice to have a few new girly things for her (bows) and a name that we had called her for weeks upon weeks. I felt that bond immediately—like I had really known her for 40 weeks.

JD loves the surprise of not knowing until birth. He’s the most laid back guy you’ll ever meet (which makes him the perfect ying to my yang). But I want to know. I want that early bonding. I want to be able to prep Brody if it’s a girl so he doesn’t meet her at the hospital disappointed he didn’t get a brother. I want to figure out room plans—will this baby share with Isla? Will we do separate rooms? I want to be able to clear out all of the baby clothes we don’t need. I want to have a name ready. I want to start daydreaming about this sweet little one.

So, yes! We’re finding out the sex. Soon. Stay tuned. #19weeks #20weeks #genderreveals

ARMY MAN RESCUE! This activity kept Brody busy non-stop for 54 minutes! #winning

It requires a little prep, but it was worth the effort. I’ll share a variation at the bottom for the younger toddlers. 🌈How to:🌈 ▫️Grab a medium sized plastic bin (I like the @ikea kuggis storage bins). ▫️Fill 1/3 of the way with water. ▫️Drop in 10-15 plastic army men (or plastic animals). @dollartree is the best spot to find these. ▫️Freeze for 4+ hours. ▫️Pull out of freezer, fill 2/3rds of the way and add 10-15 more plastic army men. ▫️Freeze for 4+ hours. ▫️Fill almost to the top of the container and add the final batch of plastic army men. ▫️Freeze overnight. ▫️Remove frozen ice block from container and let your little one rescue the army men! You can use any tools around your house. I let Brody use small a hammer supervised. 🌈Tips:🌈 ▫️Freezing in layers helps the plastic army men to disperse. ▫️You know your child best, if they don’t seem old enough or coordinated enough for a hammer, don’t give them one. Try a spoon for them to “dig” them out. ▫️Have your little one wear sunglasses or goggles. Some of the ice chips will fly up. ▫️Set it up in a play pool. This kept everything contained. 🌈Toddler alternative:🌈 @mamanotes shared an idea last night and it would be great for younger toddlers. Freeze little plastic toys in ice cube trays. Use a paint brush and salt/warm water for the toddler to “rescue” the toys from each ice cube. The salt will help melt the ice.

RAINBOW RICE 🌈 Who knew playing with rice would keep these kiddos so entertained.

How to make it: ▫️1 bag of white rice
▫️Distilled white vinegar
▫️Food coloring
▫️Sandwich Bags

1. Separate the bag of rice into 5 sandwich bags (approx 1.25 cups/bag)

2. Add 10-12 drops of food coloring to each bag.

3. Add 1/4 tsp of white vinegar to each bag (this keeps the color from transferring to your hands)

4. Seal and massage/shake the color through the bag.

5. Pour into a container and let’s the kiddos go wild!

Tips: ▫️ Do this outside or in a play pool if you don’t want rice spread across your house (I learned this the hard way) ▫️Army men, plastic animals, cups, spoons, kitchen utensils etc—tossing some of these in the container makes it even more fun. ▫️Keep the colors separated in the container when you initially pour them in. My kiddos loved being the ones to mix the colors together.
