The Best of Outerwear on Amazon
The weather is turning cooler and I’m stocking up on pieces that will transition from from fall to winter. As usual, I’m trying to find a lot of gender neutral pieces that can be passed down from Brody to Isla and then again to Luca once he’s big enough.
I love going with neutral colors and then adding pops of navy, mustard, or maroon for the cooler months. I also try to go with pieces that will mix-and-match or easily layer with other items already in the kids’ closets so I’m able to get more wear out of everything they have. For instance, I’ll pair cable knit tights with one piece outfits and dresses from summer so that they carry over into cooler months.
How I select outerwear for the kids
When I’m searching for jackets, sweaters, and other outerwear accessories, I always keep the following in mind:
Is this a classic or trendy look? If it’s a trend, I don’t want to invest a lot of money into something that won’t be in style in a year or so. However some items like a good puffer jacket or a pair of Hunter rain boots will get a lot of use in our house so I don’t mind spending a bit more for those.
Is it something that can transition between seasons? Rather than buying only heavy coats, I like to have a variety of lighter and heavier options that can move between seasons. That way the kids get more use out of things before they outgrow them.
Is this something my kids will actually wear? I know this sounds silly but I re-buy similar items season after season for a reason. I don’t want to spend money on a style of shoe or hat that I know my kids won’t wear. I make sure to check in with myself and make sure this is something one of the kids will want to wear, and that it’s not just something I want to see them in.
Remember, if you’re buying ahead of time be sure to read the sizing reviews so you order the correct size (especially if your kiddo is in between sizes). As you’ve seen with some of my other roundups, Amazon sizing can be all over the place. Generally the reviews are accurate, so check there first if you have questions about sizing.
