How To Build A Craft Cart

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you know what a central piece our craft cart has been for our homeschool journey. We’ve been using it as a dual craft and classroom cart and it’s been so great for keeping our space organized. I’ll switch items + supplies in and out depending on what our lesson plans entail for the week or if I have any activities I know I’ll want to focus on, but I generally keep the basics stocked at all times.

How I Organize the Small Supplies

The cart is a basic three tier cart and you can find them at Target or Ikea. I use these hanging cups for storing supplies like crayons, glue sticks, and markers. They have been the MVP of my cart organization. They allow for easy separation of supplies and double the amount of space I can have to work with. There's also a longer and thinner version of the hanging boxes that will fit the cart.

Organization Inside the Cart

For the supplies that I keep inside the cart baskets, I use these medium and large storage boxes with lids. The larger box fits fills the shelves of the cart almost perfectly. You can stack the smaller boxes on top, or stick them on their own shelf, depending on how much you need to contain I also use this clear storage box to organize our sensory materials, since it has dividers built into the box.

Miscellaneous Organization

Finally, I use magazine storage boxes to hold all of our workbooks, coloring sheets, and printouts at the top of the cart. I separate out items for Brody's school work, Isla's activities, and then general craft + activity sheets. I label every box and bin with these labels from the January Magic Playbook printables pack and it helps keep everything sorted. If you think you'll be switching labels out, you can use a laminator so the labels are sturdier and can be easily changed out.

There you have it - an easy way to keep your crafts, activities, and school supplies organized! I definitely recommend a cart with wheels because it makes it so easy to tote around the house to wherever you + the kiddos are setting up for the day. I hope this is a useful guide for you - let me know if you have any tips or tricks for keeping your supplies organized and I’ll share them with our community on Instagram. Happy crafting!
